Let the locals have a say--the word from Texas Senator John Cornyn--who has filed a bill that would reform how lawsuits are settled under the federal Endangered Species Act.
In filing his bill, the Senator said the deals that are currently struck by environmentalists and the federal government in settling how to protect endangered species are simply unfair.
"The problem is many local stakeholders--including local officials are frozen out of that--they may not even know about it" the Senator said.
"This type of litigation has been manipulated in the past which shuts out the folks most affected by these
kinds of settlements" Cornyn said, adding that has to change."My bill would open up the process to give local officials and stakeholders and taxpayers a say so" Cornyn said, as he keeps his eye on an effort underway to protect certain salamanders in the Round Rock area.
"The problem with that of course is that if this is done without good science and good research some decisions that can be made can have a dramaticly negative impact on the economy and on job creation."
