By Bill O'NeilA southside standoff comes to an end several hours after it began--with police shooting and killing a man they said charged at them with a rifle.
It all happend at a home in the area of Drury Lane and Escalon Avenue--where San Antonio Police said a man in his thirties assaulted his girlfriend.
"The concern was how could they expalin the injuries to her--so the plan was hatched that they would crash the car--and that's where the injuries came from. Once the car was crashed--she ran and went back to the house and called police" said San Antonio Police Chief Wiliam McManus. Police arrived a short time later.
"Officers engaged him in communication, at one point they though he was going to come out. He did not--and a short time later he came out and rushed toward the officers with a rifle in his hand--and they opend fire" McManus said. the gunman was shot dead on his porch.
The girlfriend was taken to a hsoptial for treatment of her injuries.
