By Bill O'Neil

Some tense moments during a hearing on Capitol Hill--where Texas Senator John Cornyn pressed for answers on the Obama Adminsitration's record of prosecuting crimes relating to guns annd background checks.
While pointing to just thirteen guilty pleas or verdicts out of 76-thousand failed background checks--the exchange began with the number two Republican in the U.S. Senate asking Attorney Geenral Eric Holder if a crime not prosecuted does not produce a deterrent.

"We have limited resources--and we have to figure out where we're going to use those limited resources" Holder replied--striking a neerve with the Senator.

"You didn't answer my question. A crime not prosecuted does not produce the kind of deterence we would want to prevent other people from committing those similar crimes" Cornyn responded, adding "I would just like a simple answer to the question.

"Deterrence comes in a number of forms" replied the Attorney General, who then cited a number of examples.
