City officials have held two informational job fairs and they say they've received more than 1,700 applications.
"If people have questions about the Pre-K 4 SA Initiative, or if they need assistance applying online, they can get their questions answered at the job fairs," said spokeswoman Rebecca Flores.
She told 550 KTSA News positions include master teachers and teacher assistants.
"For our master teachers, starting pay will be $60,000 a year. The teachers will be working more days than an average public school teacher and they'll also be assisting with professional development," said Flores.
A Pre-K 4 SA job fair is scheduled from 4-7 pm Monday at the Claude Black Community Center, 1805 East Commerce. Wednesday's session will be from 5:30 to
8:30 pm at the North East Service Center, 10303 Tool Yard. Another Pre-K job fair is scheduled from 4:30 to 7:30 pm Thursday at the Mission Library on Roosevelt Avenue.
Interested applicants can access information about each position and apply at www.sanantonio.gov/hr/jobs/Pre-K4SA_Jobs.asp."The high level of interest in these positions shows that we have great momentum across the community to improve educational outcomes," Mayor Julian Castro said.
He added that the city is committed to hiring a "stellar team of professionals who will each play a role in shaping the lives of hundreds of four-year-olds beginning this August."
The program funded by a 1/8-cent sales tax approved by voters last November will provide full-day Pre-K for an estimated 22,000 four-year-olds over eight years, including 2,000 who will be served through four Model Education Centers.
