San Antonio Red Cross is accepting donations to help shelter those people who were rendered homeless by Monday's two alarm fire at The Fox Run apartment complex off Broadway.

The fire, which started around 3:00 Monday afternoon, completely destroyed one building and damaged three others.

"So we're looking at 20 units that have been damaged and probably will not be able to have people live in them right now, so the main thing is that we take care of these folks right now who have potentially lost everything," said Chief Charles Hood with the SAFD.

The fire started on the same day that San Antonio had one of the hottest days on record for March, and Chief Hood said that played a big factor in trying to put it out.

"We have had to call out extra resources for rehab, to make sure that our firefighters are hydrated, as this is the hottest fire we've had this year so far," said Chief Hood.

The apartment complex was last inspected in August last year and had no deficiencies to note, but Chief Hood says Building 15 burnt so quickly because it consisted mostly of wood.

"This fire went defensive from the onset, and we tried to get in do a quick offensive attack and make a surge but the fire was basically too big for us to contain, and we wanted to protect the exposures," said Chief Hood.

No one was injured in the fire, and Chief Hood said arson investigators will have to examine the structure before a cause can be determined.
