Early Morning Fire at News 4 TV

As the morning news program began Tuesday, the crew at  WOAI-TV  suddenly became the news.

Fire broke out on the second floor around 5:00 am sounding alarms in the the downtown television station at Navarro and North Saint Marys.

San Antonio Fire Department assistant chief, Oscar Gonzales, told 550 KTSA News around 55 fire personnel responded  promptly and were met by  flames and heavy smoke shooting from  the second story window. Fire crews worked around 45 minutes to an hour getting the fire under control initially.

" Fire damage is primarily on the second floor, but there is smoke damage throughout the building" said Gonzalez.

The station anticipated being back on the air by late Tuesday afternoon.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the 2-alarm fire.

There were no injuries reported.
