Melissa Sparks with the city's Capital Improvements Management Services, says they need to get that section of Blanco Road ready for reconstruction.
"We're tearing out the pavement and putting in new roadway, curbs, sidewalks and driveways," said Sparks.
She told 550 KTSA News they're also installing a storm sewer system to improve drainage in the area. The construction is part of the 2-year Blanco Road project, which reconstructs and widens Blanco Road from San Francisco Street to Edison Drive and from El Monte Boulevard to Olmos Creek.
"We're replacing gas, water and sewer mains. We're doing an underground storm drainage system and improving the traffic signals," said Sparks.
During the six months of construction on
Southbound Blanco Road between San Francisco Street and Fresno Drive, traffic will be redirected along Fresno Drive to IH-10 to the west or San Pedro Avenue to the east, leading toward Hildebrand Avenue.
