Nothing out of the ordinary--the word from Republican San Antonio Congressman Lamar Smith--who doesn't see any conspiracies in the recent bulk purchases of ammunition by the federal government. In fact, after taking a closer look, the Congressman said we've seen this kind of thing before.
"They (the feds) buy it (ammunition) every five years--and the amount of money they are proposing to buy now is not out of line with what they bought five years ago" Smith said. That includes the purchase of hollow point bullets.
"The hollow point bullets are being used by law enforcement officials when they are on patrol--and the military in certain instances there" Smith said, adding the purchases come down to simple mathematics.
"The government every five years does buy a quantity of ammunition in bulk. They get better prices, rather than just buying it every year" Smith said.
