A Republican Congressman sees a real chance to reach a solution--but also warned there are several challenges ahead when it comes to efforts to reform immigration.
Congressman Lamar Smith said he can sense a bi-partisan support on Capitol Hill for reforming the system--at the same time though--he also said he's not sure about the attitude coming from the White House.
"I am not convinced the President really wants us to come to a solution. There are a lot of people who feel he just wants to use it as a political weapon" the Congressman said.
While the Congressman said he does see a bi-partisn desire to get something done in Congress--he also said he's ok with creating a special visa calss for the so-called "Dreamers"--people who were brought to the United States illegally as small children.
"I think the young children who were brought to the country--who were brought here through no fault of their own are in a special category" Smith said, adding "I would come up with a special visa that would allow children who have been in the country illegally for a long period of time--through no fault of their own of course--to stay here."
