Sequestration has snuffed out the annual Military Fiesta and fireworks at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston this year.
According to a statement released by Joint Base San Antonio officials Tuesday, budgetary restrictions have prompted local military officials to modify participation in this year's Fiesta San Antonio events..
The family carnival and fireworks extravaganza which in the past, has featured a full afternoon lineup of entertainment, children's activities, military equipment displays and performances by military units on the first Sunday of Fiesta San Antonio, has been cancelled,
Instead, Fort Sam Houston will host a band concert and Soldier Show in the historic Quadrangle at 5:30 pm Sunday, April 21.
In addition, the U.S. Air Force Band of the West's Fiesta in Blue concert has been moved to the Bob Hope Theater on Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland at 7 pm April 24. Only members of the community who have access to JBSA-Lackland will be able to attend. You can visit the band's website at www.bandofthewest.af.mil for more information.
Military units will participate in parades and other events which to not require additional costs.
The 323rd Army Band at Fort Sam Houston and the U.S. Army Soldier Show will perform at the Alamo Wednesday, April 24, starting at 11 a.m.
