Mayor Julian Castro wants to revisit the city ordinance that prohibits parade participants from throwing trinkets to spectators.
He said he was unaware that the ordinance existed when he threw medals at the crowd during the Battle of Flowers Parade Friday afternoon.
El Rey Feo Larry Benson and his court were removed from the Battle of Flowers Parade after being warned to stop tossing beads with medallions.
"Come on, its Fiesta," said Castro. "I'm sure that we'll have a chance to look at that ordinance."
He said people are overreacting.
"Nobody even knows about the ordinance, so I think it was a bit of overreaction. But more than anything else, I think there's a lot of silliness about that in the media," said Castro.
Benson, who earned his crown by raising more than $380,000 for scholarships and recently donated $1.5 million to St. Anthony School, is originally from New Orleans, where tossing beads is a longtime tradition at Mardi Gras parades.
