Tolls on Loop 1604?

By Bill O'Neil

Might you have to pay a toll in the years ahead to travel on Loop 1604?
The answer just might be yes--with a bill now headed to Governor Rick Perry's desk--which would allow officials to enter in to tolling agreements with private companies on some twenty roads across the state--including 1604.

"This is Rick Perry's legacy. He has hijacked our affordable freeway system" said Terri Hall with Texans UNited for Reform & Freedom. She told 550 KTSA News such a toll--which she sees as pretty likely on 1604--is a lose lose for drivers.

"They will lock down any expansion of our surrounding free roads for up to thirty years--and that's for a five mile radius" Hall said. That--plus the cash you'd have to spend in driving on the tolled road.
"We've heard before from some of our elected representatives that this is really the largest tax increase in Texas history--by the time you add up the cost it's going to be to the average commuters" Hall said.

The measure allows officials to enter in to such an agreement over the next several years.
