An Investigator with the Bexar County District Attorney's Office is recovering from a bullet wound, after he apparently shot himself in the foot while attending a class at the county's police training academy.
The man, who has yet to be identified, was at the academy Friday morning to attend an annual certification class to carry his service weapon when the incident happened.
"When he was told to clear and disassemble his weapon, he removed his magazine but it apparently looks like he forgot to clear the chamber, so the weapon accidentally discharged when he pulled the trigger," said Sandy Gutierrez, A Public Information Officer with the SAPD.
The bullet left in the .40 caliber Glock 23 entered the man's left foot.
"He was treated at the scene by our SAPD Tactical Medical Unit as well as EMS, and he was ultimately transferred to SAMCC (San Antonio Military Medical Center)," said Gutierrez.
The man is reportedly predicted to be fine, and Gutierrez says the department has no plans to charge him for shooting his own foot.
