Senate Approves Abortion Restrictions Bill

A bill seeking to tighten restrictions on abortion is passed in the state Senate, but without a provision to reduce the window for getting an abortion to the first 20 weeks of pregnancy.  The Senate voted 20-to-10 Tuesday night to approve a bill that with three new restrictions, including a requirement that doctors who prescribe RU-486 to terminate a pregnancy must administer it in person.  One part of the bill that was removed before the vote was the 20-week limit on termination of pregnancy, a move state Senator Glen Hegar said would assure enough time for the House to debate the bill.  The Senate bill now moves on to the House, which has until next Tuesday to vote to approve it.
