Fatal South Texas Plane Crash

By Johnny Shannon

A pilot has been killed in the fiery crash of a small plane in Guadalupe county.

Texas Department of Public Safety  trooper Deon Cockrell tells 550 KTSA News the plane was attempting to land  near Marion.

The aircraft, flying low  toward the Zuehl Airport, struck powerlines while approaching  the runway.   It continued over the treelines and crashed--catching fire.

Cockrell says  the pilot, identified as Peter Dinkleman of New Braunfels, was alone in the single engine experimental  plane that went down  about 20 miles northeast of San Antonio.

Federal Aviation Administration  investigators are trying to determine the cause of the accident.
