Hasan to Enter Plea

By Bill O'Neil

The Army psychiatrist who has admitted to opening fire on fellow soldiers at Fort Hood in 2009 is finally due to enter a plea in the case.

Major Nidal Hasan is expected to plead not guilty to the shooting rampage--the plea to be entered a week before jury selection is to get underway in his court martial.

If convicted, Hasan faces the possibility of execution--or life behind bars--for the shooting deaths of thirteen fellow soldiers--along with 32 counts of attempted murder.

In military cases, defendants are not asked to enter a plea until right before the proceedings are set to get underway.
