SA Unemployment Bumps Up

By Bill O'Neil

San Antonio's unemployment rate rises slightly in the month of June--but analysts said there's no cause for major concern.

The driver of the increase from 6.5% in May to 6.7% in JUne is easy to see said Eva Esquivel with Workforce Solutions Alamo.

"Public school jobs and education jobs at the college and university level do contribute to the greatest (job) losses at this time" Esquivel told 550 KTSA News--adding the overall jobs picture locally remains very bright.

"We have job growth in construction--which for us continues to be something we look at to sort of gauge our economic viability" Esquivel said.

Overall the travel and leisure sector created the most job last month--both on the local and state levels. The overall unemployment rate for the State of Texas held steady at 6.5% in June.
