Walmart Opponents Retain Attorney

by Elizabeth Ruiz

The fight against a proposed Super Walmart in Cibolo takes a legal turn as a couple of homeowners associations retain an attorney to help their cause.

They claim the plans don't meet the zoning requirements for the property on Cibolo

Road at Borgfield Road.

The Cibolo City Council plans to meet in a special session and budget workshop at 4 pm Tuesday to discuss the latest developments.

Also on the agenda is a petition to recall 4 city council members.

Cibolo resident Tannya Steffen says they're not against Walmart, they just don't want it at that location.

"The proposed location is 200 feet across the street from an elementary school.  Our biggest concern is the safety of these kids," Steffen told 550 KTSA News.

She says there's also concern that the store would increase crime in the area.

"This should never have been approved.  It should never have been approved by planning and zoning," said Steffen.
