Sales Tax Holiday This Weekend

By Bill O'Neil

If you need to load up on back to school clothes and supplies--your chance to take a little bit of the dent out of your wallet as you make those purchases is coming.

"This will be the 15th year for the sales tax holiday in Texas" said R.J. DeSilva in the Comptroller's Office. He told 550 KTSA News the holiday again applies to a number of items costing less than $100.

"It's a chance for folks doing their back to school shopping or just going out and about doing regular shopping to take advantage of the fact that they don't have to pay sales tax on a lot of different clothing and footwear--and school supplies" DeSilva said.

The sales tax holiday comes with the release of new numbers from the state--showing $2.2 billion in sales tax revenue was collected in July--up more than 7% over the same month one year ago.
