Could it be the first major issue among Republicans in the battle to be the next Governor of Texas?
Former Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Tom Pauken told 550 KTSA News he can't understand why fellow candidate--and current Texas Attorney Geenral Greg Abbott--would line up behind the Justice Department's effort to block the U.S. Airways-American Airlines merger.
"If he (Abbott) succeeds and if (U.S. Attorney General Eric) Holder succeeds it's a job killer for Texas" Pauken said, adding "It's like Texas has a target on it's back from this Administration--and our own Texas Attorney General is joining in with Eric Holder."
Pauken said the challenge to the merger could potentially put thousands of jobs at risk in the state--while interfering with the free market. In challenging the merger plan, Abbott said he's concerned over it's potential impact on rural travelers in the state--as well as a potential jump in cost for air travelers.
