As the debate continues over the proposed addition of sexual orientation  and gender identification to the city's non-discrimination ordinance, GetEQUAL Texas has issued a travel alert warning gays and lesbians about visiting San Antonio.

"It's merely an advisory, an alert, letting people know to be careful when they come here because there have been many cases of discrimination against the LGBT community," said Jennfer Falcon with GetEQUAL Texas.

She told 550 KTSA News they want to let LGBT people know about the ongoing debate over the proposed changes to the city's anti-discrimination ordinance.

"The non-disrimination ordinance doesn't only affect the LGBT community here, it also affects lesbians, gays and transgender people who want to vacation here in San Antonio.

Falcon says she's heard about several cases of LGBT discrimination in San Antonio.

"It's sad when somebody comes up to me and says they can't get housing because they're transgender," she said.

Falcon also claims a lesbian couple planning a commitment ceremony had a difficult time finding a photographer and a place to rent for the event.

The San Antonio city council is scheduled to vote next month on the proposed changes to the non-discrimination ordinance.
