A new twist in the controversy surrounding the secretly recorded comments on homosexuality made by City Councilwoman Elisa Chan--with the release of a new portion of the conversation she had with staffers--this part focusing on the family of former Councilwoman Leticia Ozuna.
Those comments specifically about Ozuna's spouse led the former Councilwoman to press a call for Chan to step down from her post. In a statement obtained by 550 KTSA News, Ozuna said Chan should no longer be in a position to make "prejudiced, ill-informed decisions that could cause irreparable harm to the good people of San Antonio."
For her part, Chan is apologizing to Ozuna.
"I do take full responsibility for not stopping the conversation..when it leads to referencing a specific person" Chan told 550 KTSA's Jack Riccardi Show in an exclusive interview. She went on to say she has no plans for resigning.
"No--because I represent my people. If I represent my people. If I resign, who is going to step up and represent my district?" Chan said.
The controversy first began about a week ago--when the recording of Chan's conversation with staffers first came out.
