Lightning Strikes 2 Boys

by Elizabeth Ruiz

A lightning strike in the city's West Side sends two boys to University Hospital, one of them in critical condition.

"One of the boys, an 11-year-old, was directly hit by lightning," said Assistant Fire Chief Oscar Gonzalez.

He told 550 KTSA News that a bystander was performing CPR on the boy when the first crew arrived  at the home in the 4700 block of Barons Ridge.

"The second boy suffered some secondary shock symptoms from that lightning strike that hit the other child," said Gonzalez.

He says the boy who was critically injured is a neighbor who was visiting his friend.

"They were just playing in the backyard when they were hit by lightning," said Gonzalez.

Lightning also is suspected in a house fire on Lion Forest. No injuries reported in that incident.
