The VIA Metropolitan Transit Board is set to vote Tuesday on a plan to build a streetcar line in Downtown San Antonio.
The preferred six mile route is the most expensive of the options that were under consideration--and is expected to cost taxpayers about $280-million.
"It would in most probablility be built out in phases" said VIA's Charlie Gonzalez, adding "You wopuld have one phase be totally operational and functional--and you would proceed to finish out the rest of it."
Gonazalez said the agency has about $210-million for the project, and would need the balance to complete the work.
If the Board gives a thumbs up to the plan, the next step would be an environmental study. Gonzalez said construction won't likely begin for a couple of years after the project is approved.
