Northeast School District officials are trying to determine how an 11-year-old student managed to leave Redland Oaks Elementary school undetected.
North East Independent School District spokeswoman Aubrey Chancellor told 550 KTSA News the girl failed to return to class after asking to use the restroom Tuesday morning, prompting a search that included the San Antonio Police Department's helicopter.
Officials also executed a fire drill that forced the evacuation of the campus, allowing authorities to conduct a room-by-room search.
"Officers found the missing child sleeping under some bushes about three doors down from her residence," said Chancellor.
Bailey Duplant-Rangel was reunited with her mother, but authorities have a lot of questions as they try to determine how the girl left the campus.
"She will certainly face appropriate disciplinary action," said Chancellor.
