SA Lawmakers on the Hill During Scare

By Bill O'Neil

A number of San Antonio lawmakers found themselves shetlering in place in the midst of the Washington security scare that apparently began with someone trying to ram through the gates at the White House--and ended with gunfire near Capitol Hill.

"It's almost like following the route of the inauguration--probably with vehicles coming down either Pennsylvania or Constitution Avenue--right down to the Capitol on the Senate side" said Congressman Lloyd Doggett--who told 550 KTSA News the word to take cover came out of the blue.

"I just returned from the Capitol following votes here, when all kind of alarms and sirens began going off" the Congressman said, adding there was nothing he could see that was out of the ordinary just before the incident took place.

"There were the normal number of people put around the Capitol Grounds expressing themselves" Doggett said. The Congressman also credited Capitol Hill Police with doing a great job at keeping everyone safe.

"It appears to me that they were on top of it immediately. Our Capitol Police force does a great job--and they were hustling quickly" Doggett said.
