A thumbs up from the San Antonio City Council for a planned downtown medical school.
The plan will cost the city $7.7 million in helping to create a new University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine at Fox Tech High School.
"We are basically adopting SAISD--and we will work very intimately with them on total development of the students" said UIW President Dr. Lou Agnese, who sees even more potential benefit from the planned school.
"I think this will have a tremendous impact not only on the brain power of the city, but also on the development of the creek, of housing, on food" Agnese daid.
With Fox Tech slated to be the latest of SAISD's schools offerign a learning track in medicine, Councilman Diego Bernal sees something even bigger int he works.
"I beleive that we have the opportunity to turn this constellation of schools in to the Johns Hopkins of schools and opportunities in our city" Bernal said.
