Obamacare backers in Texas insist they are encouraged by enrollment efforts so far--blaming Republican leaders in the state for the low numbers of those who have signed up.
"Folks in Texas are clearly excited about healthcare.gov" said Protect Your Care's Katie Naranjo--despite initial numbers falling the numbers of enrollees in the state has fallen just short of 23-hundred so far.
"The enrollment numbers for Texas in particular are quite remarkable considering the incredibly difficult climate that we have in the State of Texas" said Tiffany Hogue with the Texas Organizing Project.
Supporters said the state's decision not to accept an expnsion of it's Medicaid program is largely to blame for the low numbers--which they insist would be otherwise higher if such a move was made.
"What we need is leaders in this state to draw some inspiration--and try to summon some political courage" said State Representative Chris Turner.
