No Immgration Round UP Game at U.T.

By Bill O'Neil

Game over--before it began--student organizers have pulled the plug on Wednesday's planned "cath an illegal immigrant" game that was to be played at the University of Texas in Austin.

Amid a storm of growing criticism--the campus' chapter of the Young Conservatives of Texas decided not to go foward with the event--which School Vice-President for Diversity and Community Engagement Gregory Vioncent called "disrespectful."

"On the one hand, these students are exercising their free speech--but they're doing it at the cost of demeaning other students and other groups. We feel that part is not consistent with our core value" Vincent said before it was announced the game would not take place.

In a statement, Campus Chapter Chairman Lorenzo Garcia wrote members feared for their safety--as well as reprisals from the school's administration. He did say the decision to award $25 gift cards to those who "captured" a person wearing a lable that said "illegal" was misguided.
