A call for change from a San Antonio lawmaker--as the State Board of Education meets and discusses high school graduation requirements.
"The idea of freedom and liberty for students to have more control over answering the question..what are you going to change in your life now--and what do you want to learn?" said State Representative Mike Villareal, who is asking the Board to reconsdier plans for requiring Algebra II for graduation.
" I think the reason why a lot of our kids drop out is that they are bored to tears by abstract facts and rules that are completely taken out of context" Villareal said.
The Representative believes more student involvement in the shaping of their educational experience will help them better prepare to be part of the workforce--especially if they are not going to go on to college.
