Count San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro among the backers of HEB's downtown expansion plans.
"It's going to mean hundreds of new jobs for the city, specifically the urban core--and also a dowtown grocery store--which many folks have been hoping for for a long time" the Mayor told the 550 KTSA Morning News with Trey Ware. The Mayor's support for the plan comes one day after the Zoning Commission voted unanimously in favor of a gas station at that proposed new grocery store--despite the environmental and public health concerns voiced by some.
Meanwhile, Council is also expected to consider renewing City Manager Sheryl Sculley's contract.
"Sheryl has done a great job for San Antonio--I think she's recognized around the United States as definitely one of the best City Managers out there. She'll get about a 10% pay increase" Castro said in voicing his support for renewing Sculley's contract.
