Merry Christmas Law in Full Effect

By Bill O'Neil

It's not a dirty word--that's the message from backers of the state's recently passed "Merry Christmas" law, who see it as an example for other states to follow.

Passed unanimously in the legislature, the measure was pressed on the Democratic side of the aisle by State Representative Richard Raymond.

"Everybody understood that "Merry Christmas," "Happy Hanukkah--it's ok" Raymond said at the State Capitol.

Republican State Rep Dwayen Bohac said he wrote the law--after learning his young son would not be allowed to celebrate Christmas at school.

"It's not a holiday tree--it's a Christmas tree because it is celebrating the holiday we're in now--which is Christmas" Bohac said.
