More than 60-thousand Texans are among the 1.3 million Americans who have lost long-term unemployment benefits. Those numbers include some three-thousand Bexar County residents.
U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez said now is not the time to leave those who need help behind.
"We have made significant strides--the unemployment rate recently fell to a five-year low. But the hole this Admninistration inherited was a very deep one" Perez said. While the Secretary pushes Congress to take action and extend those benefits after returning form it's holiday break--others said Congress needs to stay out of it.
"There's nothing within the Constitution that gives the federal government any say so over unemployment benefits" said San Antonio Tea Party President Allen Tharp.
