Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree, How lovely are your branches…and your mulch.
San Antonio residents can recycle their live Christmas trees at any one of 17 drop-off sites across the city from 8 a.m. to 1 pm Saturday and Sunday.
“We just ask that the tree be free of nails and decorations. If it’s taller than 6 feet, you’ll have to cut it in half,” said Tiffany Edmonds with the city’s Solid Waste Department.
She told 550 KTSA News flocked trees are ok and they’ll all be turned into mulch.
“They have that wonderful pine smell, so residents like to put the mulch over their lawns and gardens going into springtime,” said Edmonds.
To find a drop-off location near you, call 3-1-1 or visit www.sanantonio.gov/swmd.
The seventeen drop-off locations also will be open next Saturday and Sunday, January 11 and 12.
If you can’t take your live Christmas tree to any of the drop off sites the next two weekends, trees also will be recycled through the end of the month during normal business hours at the Nelson Gardens Brush Recycling Center and the Bitters Brush Recycling Facility.
