More Signs of GOP Division?

By Don Morgan

Another Republican Candidate for office is touting his conservative roots--as he takes aim at Texas House Speaker Joe Straus.

Matt Beebe told 550 KTSA News the Speaker simply hasn't upheld conservative values in Austin.

"I think we've missed some opportunities over the last several sessions to really drive conservative solutions in our state" Beebe said.

While some may see Republicans as the ultimate losers in the debate that's taking place within their party today--University of Texas at Arlington Political Scientist Allen Saxe told 550 KTSA News the in-party competition can actually be a good thing for the GOP.

"The Republican Party I think will be healthier because of this. It's not neccesarily fracturing--although I think some Democrats would like to believe that" Saxe said.
