Gun Show Debate Goes on in Austin

By Don Morgan

Travis County Commissioners hold their ground--continuing to insist on background checks for all sales at any future Saxet gun shows held there.

"This has been an ongoing topic" said Hillary Rand with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, agreeing with the push coming from the Travis County Commissioners Court. Rand's group was among a number to testify at Tuesday's hearing on the matter.

Agriculture Commissioner and Republican Candidate for Lieutenant Governor Todd Staples has been an outspoken critic of the push. He told 550 KTSA News law abiding citizens shouldn't have to jump over hurdles that don't need to be put in front of them.

"Our Second Amendment rights are guaranteed by our Constitution--There are laws for federal firearm dealers today that they have to comply with" Staples said, adding "We have to make it where legal, law abiding citizens don't have hurdles to fulfilling their Second Amendment rights."

Without taking any action, Saxet's contract to hold it's gun show yearly in Austin will expire following this year's show.
