False Allegations of Park Attack

By Bill O'Neil

She made it all up--so said a woman who had claimed to have been assaulted while jogging along the Leon Creek Greenway Jnauary 17th.

"I want to let the city know that attack never, ever happened" said San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, after the woman admitted the hoax to detectives. Investigators said they were able to determine her story was false, as it changed.

"I don't know the exact reason (why she made up the claim), it had something to do with the relationship with her significant other" McManus said, adding the city's parks are safe.

"Crime is actually down int he parks--way down. It's just unfortunate that the city and the people who use these parks alot to go and relax and exercise had to have that concern" McManus said.

The woman's claim came nearly three weeks after Lauren Bump was murdered at O.P. Scnabel Park on the city's northwest side. An arrest has been made in that case.
