Texas-Oklahoma Rail Study Meeting

by Elizabeth Ruiz
A public meeting on the Texas-Oklahoma passenger rail study is making a stop in San Antonio Thursday.
Laura Lopez with the Texas Department of Transportation told 550 KTSA News they're exploring the possibility of an 850-mile route along IH 35 from Oklahoma City to South Texas.
"We do have to look at other options, which include passenger rail service, and how they would fit the needs of many travelers and reduce the demand on the state's highway system," said Lopez.
TxDOT will host an open house from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the VIA Metro Transit Center on San Pedro.
"This is just a study and we're looking for public input," said Lopez.
The study will wrap up by the end of the year and then TxDOT will recommend options to the Federal Railroad Administration.
"This is something that we brought to the table about a year ago and we will continue to explore the idea of rail routes and the types of service," said Lopez.
