Winter Mix Snarls Area Roads

By KTSA News Staff

An early morning blast of winter weather leaves a mark on some portions of the San Antonio area--especilly in an area stretching from Loop 1604 north through New Braunfels and San Marcos.

"We would discourage the public from driving unless it's absolutely neccessary until later in the morning" said Sheri Masterson with the City of New Braunfels--where the Emergency Operations Center was activated after a mix of snow, and sleet fell early Thursday.

"We have spread chat--which is a fine aggregate--on a number of bridges in the City" Masterson said.

The Texas Department of Transportation was forced to close IH 35 in a number of spots between San Antonio and New Braunfels due to a number of accidents. A similar situation also played out on Loop 1604. It appears areas south of 1604 escaped any major impact from the precipitation.

A number of school districts to the north and east were forced to delay their openings as a result of the weather.
