Ground is officially broken on a major northeast side expansion project, which will expand sectrions of Loop 1604 from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway.
Converse Mayor Al Suarez said it's a matter of safety.
"You have a lot of new drivers traveling, and the only thing you have separating them from 18-wheelers is four inches of yellow line" Suarez told 550 KTSA News at the groundbreaking ceremony. He said the project will help fill a transportation capacity gap between FM 78 and IH 10.
"This is a feeder from IH 35 to IH 10 and vice versa--so we're seeing a lot of traffic" Suarez said.
