Doggett Calls for Continued Diplomacy with Iran

By Bill O'Neil

A San Antonio Congressman presses the White House to give diplomacy a chance--with another round of talks on Iran's nuclear program due to get underway next week.

Democrat Lloyd Doggett is one of more than one-hundred lawmakers to sign the letter addressed to President Barack Obama.

"The letter basically is affirming that our country is on the right path on this issue--and fortunately, we got some bi-partisan support for that" Doggett told 550 KTSA News, who said the letter shouldn't be a suggestion that he suddenly trusts the Iranians.

"But I think this is a key foreign policy matter where the real alternative to diplomacy is another war" Doggett said.

Doggett was openly critical of President Obama's plans for launching a military strike against Syria last year, part of an initial wave of objectiont hat led the White Hosue to rethink the plan, and focus on a negotiated resolution to the use of chemical weapons int he Syrian Civil War.
