New Streetcar Opposition Effort

By Don Morgan

Another effort to stop plans for streetcars in Downtown San Antonio is underway.

This time the opposition comes in the form of a move to change the City Charter.

"That amendment to the City Charter will stipulate that no public right of way can be granted to any street car--or any other light rail transit--without public approval" said Activist Dick Slife, who is one of those pushing for the change through a new petition drive.

"We are also calling on all public officials and appointees not to let VIA enter in to any long range contracts to build the streetcar" Slife told 550 KTSA News.
