Guardsman Awarded Purple Heart

By Johnny Shannon

The oldest military decoration in the world is awarded to a Texas National Guardsman--injured a year ago in Iraq when his vehicle struck an imporvised explosive device.

"I though to myself we have to dive on forward--move forward with the whole stiutaion and keep a positive outlook on life" said Master Sergeant Robert Mangel, though very highly of by those who served with him.

"A very distinguished soldier--he always looked out for the low-enlisted that were around. Always a team player" said Staff Sergeant Christopher Cleghorn.

Specializing in food service, Mangel ran the largest military dining facility in Iraq.
