Guilty Plea in Bribery Case

By Johnny Shannon and Bill O'Neil

A guilty plea at the federal courthouse may be the first of a number of dominoes to fall in what could be a wide-ranging corruprion investigation inside the Bexar County Courthouse.

"I'm not going to comment opn a federal case--I'm sorry" said attorney Frank Perez, just after his client Al Acevedo pleaded guilty in federal court to bribing a state judge in exchange for favorable treatment.

According to the plea, those bribes included auto repairs and other considerations. In earlier filings, federal prosecutors had identified Judge Angus McGinty. To this point, McGinty has not been charged with a crime.

Acevedo could be sentenced tot en years behind bars. He has been released on bond, pending his sentencing, which has yet to be scheduled.
