Scheduled Execution Brings Call for Change

By Don Morgan

A Corpus Christi man's scheduled execution Wednesday Evening will bring another call to end the use of the death penalty form the Congregation of Divine Providence in San Antonio.

"We want to end executions because we firmly believe that life is a gift from God--and it belongs in God's hands--no one else's" said Sister Anne Petrus.

Jose Villegas is to be put to death for the murders of his ex-girlfriend, her three year old son, and her mother. Petrus said the Congregation will mark the occasion with prayer.

"We pray for the people who are affected by violence in any way. If it had been at the hands of the person being executed, we pray for their families, we pray for the people in Huntsville who carry out the executions" Petrus said.

Wednesday Evening's vigil begins at 6 PM on West 24th Street.
