Energy Industry Faces Big Challenge

By Bill O'Neil

Could the "energy boom" we've seen of late in the San Antonio area go "bust"--if the industry runs out of workers?

A new report suggests the sector faces a "double squeeze" in the years ahead--with 60% of it's workers planning to retire within the next decade, as growth continues to fuel a demand for more and more employees.

"We think that the jobs in this sector are going to double to three million by 2020" said Manpower's Kelli Stanton, who told 550 KTSA News most industry executives feel their ability to attract quality workers will only get more difficult.

"We need to make it ok for individuals to know that going the vocational route is a great route to go--and that there's a lot fo jobs out there" Stanton said.
