Big Decline in Local, State Jobless Rates

By Bill O'Neil

You can see lots of signs of strength in the Texas and San Antonio area economies in the latest report on jobs.

On the whole, the State's jobless rate fell from 5.5% in March to 5.2% in April.

"Our private employers continue to drive growth in the State's economy--with 324,200 jobs added over the year--for an annual growth rate of 3.5%" said Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Andres Alcanter.

The numbers look even better in the San Antonio area.

"We've actually dropped in to the fours--and that's the first time that's happeend since 2008--we're actually sitting at 4.4% unemployment in April" said Eva Esquivel with Workforce Solutions Alamo. She told 550 KTSA News more than one-million people are in the workforce today across the organization's twelve counties.
