Rain Helps--but Drought Goes On

By Don Morgan

The rain has helped--but that doesn't mean it's time to let the water flow across the San Antonio area.

"It has helped because of where the rain fell--it fell over the recharge zone, which has always been official--so, the elevation of the aquifer has gone up--and will probably continue to creep up in the coming days" said Teri Herbold with the Edwards Aquifer Authority. At about 640 feet, she told 550 KTSA News. the aquifer's level remains well below where it was one year ago at this time.

"As of last year--we we're at 656.6... so we're 18 feet below last year--even with the rain" Herbold said.
