Local activists see an all too real danger for too many older Americans in the death of actress Ann B. Davis after a weekend fall at her San Antonio home.
"Every 29 minutes, an older person dies following a fall in the home--such a tragic case here" said Lizette Davis with the No More Falls Coalition. She told 550 KTSA News the group will continue to spread it's message--trying to get the word out on removing those cords and throw rugs--while adding grab bars.
"The usage of them (grab bars) is almost instinctive. It's to be shown maybe a couple of times, and strategically placed where it's very functional for them" Davis said.
Still, Davis said many see grab abrs as a blow against their freedom and independence--even if using them might give a person more freedom and independence to move around their home.
