A big spike in the number of undocumented immigrants arrested in the Rio Grande Valley has one local lawmaker calling for action now.
Specifically, Congressman Henry Cuellar is pressing the Department of Homeland Security to create a multi-agency center to deal with the situation.
"We need to have the immigration judges... we need to have everybody in a one stop center" Cuellar told 550 KTSA News, pointing to reports showing the Border Patrol is catching as many as 12-hundred undocumented immigrants in the Valley every day--up to one-quarter of them children.
The Congressman said it's also an issue that clearly affects two countires.
"We certainly have to understand that this is affecting not only the United States--but I think Mexico has an interest in securing the border also" Cuellar said.
Over 140-thousand arrests have been made along the border so far this year.
